Titled “Promoting Responsible Value Chains in Forest Products with Brands and Retailers”, this year’s Forum will focus on the increasing importance of responsible value chains in forest products and look into possible means for brands and retailers to promote and mutually benefit from these value chains. Topics in this year’s conference include driving new and emerging markets for FSC-certified products, creating value chains for responsibly sourced tropical timber, and case studies such as how companies can leverage FSC- certified status to build a lasting business relationship.

This forum offers an excellent opportunity to connect brands, who wish to establish a value chain in forest products, with suppliers/retailers who can provide FSC-certified materials and products. A networking dinner will be held on the night of 25 September to let the participants get familiarise with each other before the forum day.

SEE THE AGENDA

The demand for sourcing forestry products responsibly from the Asia Pacific region has increased exponentially. The APAC region has experienced substantial growth in the Chain Of Custody(CoC) certificates over the past six years, which the number of CoC certificates has grown more than double, from about 5,000 to over 10,000.

“In a recent global consumer survey commissioned by FSC, 71% of interviewee value independent certification and many rank sourcing responsibly an important factor for purchase consideration,” says Adam Beaumont, Regional Director, FSC Asia Pacific. “In Asia Pacific, we saw growing consumer awareness to purchase sustainably sourced products. FSC, as a trusted mark of good forestry, allows like-minded companies that want to participate in responsible and transparent supply chains to identify each other easily.”

India has also seen a tremendous increase in the number of FSC certifications – about 70 percent growth over the past five years. Beaumont continues, “As the second most populated country in the world, its market can play a defining role to halt deforestation if people and businesses opt for responsibly produced and forest-friendly materials and products.”

FSC is the world’s most trusted sustainable forest management solution to deliver positive impacts for the forests, markets, and people – for today and tomorrow. Last year’s event in Hanoi, Vietnam attracted more than 100 FSC certificate holders and representatives across the region including Vietnam, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and India to attend. Check out the event highlights from last year here.
